Canny alternative

A Canny alternative that doesn’t bill you per customer

Published on

Canny bills by tracked user — anyone who posts, votes or comments. nolby is flat monthly with unlimited voters on every plan. The honest comparison.

Competitor pricing and features on this page were checked against their own published sources on 28 July 2026. If something here has gone out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

If you are reading this, you have probably just worked out what a “tracked user” costs you.

Canny meters by them. In its own words, a tracked user is anyone who has given feedback — created a post, or voted or commented on one. The free plan stops at 25. So the moment your board starts doing its job, it starts costing more, and the thing you are being charged for is your customers talking to you.

nolby is the same category of product with the opposite billing model: flat monthly, unlimited voters on every plan, including the free one.

The pricing, side by side

Canny figures taken from canny.io/pricing on 28 July 2026. Prices move — check theirs before deciding.

Every increment between 100 and 5,000 tracked users is set out in what a tracked user costs, with the date each figure was read.

The difference is not really the number, it is the shape. A flat price is one you can put in a budget. A metered one is a bill that grows fastest exactly when your product is going well, which is the worst possible time to be re-evaluating a tool your customers have bookmarked.

What “tracked user” actually means for you

It is worth being concrete, because the phrase is doing a lot of work.

Under a tracked-user model, every one of these adds to your bill:

  • A customer votes on an existing request. That’s a tracked user.
  • A customer leaves a one-line comment saying “we need this too”. Tracked user.
  • Somebody posts a duplicate you immediately merge. Still tracked.
  • You post feedback on a customer’s behalf after a support call. Also tracked.

None of those is a bad outcome. Every one of them is the product working. A pricing model that charges more for each of them is charging you for success, and it quietly teaches you to want less feedback — which is the opposite of why you bought a feedback tool.

nolby’s free tier caps the operator, not the audience: one board and one admin seat. Your customers are never counted, never capped, and never asked to make an account.

What you actually get for $39

  • Unlimited boards. Bugs, feature requests, and one per product line if you want them — each with its own URL, its own access level and its own submit form.
  • Unlimited teammates. Everyone in support can triage. Nobody has to share a login to save a seat.
  • A public roadmap with as many statuses as you use. Not three.
  • A changelog that emails everyone who voted for what you shipped.
  • Your own domain, so the board lives at feedback.yourcompany.com.
  • One-click Canny import — see below.
  • Dark mode, designed rather than bolted on.

Moving your Canny board across

The honest objection to switching is not price, it is the two years of votes and comments you would be walking away from. So the import is a first-class feature rather than a support ticket.

Export from Canny, upload the file, and nolby rebuilds the lot: boards, posts, comments, authors, and the vote counts. You get a full preview of what will land — including anything that will not import and why — before a single row is written.

Your history is not a reason to stay somewhere. It’s a file.

Three things Canny does better

A comparison page that finds no fault with itself is an advertisement, so here is where Canny is genuinely ahead. Two of these are the reasonable reasons to stay.

  1. Integrations. Canny has years of them — Jira, Linear, Intercom, Salesforce and more. If your workflow depends on feedback auto-syncing into an existing tracker, Canny does that today and nolby does not.
  2. Scale and track record. It is a mature product with large customers and the operational history to prove it. nolby is new. If you need a vendor with a decade behind it, that is a fair call and we would rather you made it knowingly.
  3. Autopilot and AI feedback capture. Canny can pull feedback out of support conversations automatically. We have deliberately not built that yet.

What we will not concede is the pricing model, the design, or the free tier — those are the reasons this exists.

Who should not switch

If you have fewer than 25 tracked users and expect to stay there, Canny’s free plan is genuinely free and you should keep using it. If your feedback pipeline depends on a deep two-way Jira or Salesforce sync, stay where you are for now.

If you are paying for people to vote, that’s what we built this for.
